English:  Unit 7 test on Wednesday 6/2.  Study the prepositions.
 
Literature:  Group discussion and work time was given today for themes 5-6.  Packets due Wednesday 6/2.  Be sure to finish the essays for themes 5-6. 

May 28
 
English:  Review pages 350-351 (1-32) due Tuesday 6/1.  Look for the unit 7 test on Wednesday along with a note check. 
 
Literature:  Family tree due Wednesday 6/2. 

May 27
 
No Language Arts today due to the field trip.  See below for due dates.

May 26
 
English:  Lesson on idioms is due Friday 5/27.  Journals are also due this Friday. 
 
Literature:  Finish compiling a list of facts pertaining to the Civil Rights Movement in American.  Reflections paragraph due Friday 5/27.   

May 25
 
English:  No assignment. 
 
Literature:  We will finish our essay on racism in class tomorrow and continue our research on the Civil Rights movement.  Theme 3 is due Thursday 5/27. 

May 24
 
English:  Lesson 6 page 360 (1-14) due Tuesday 5/25.
 
Literature:  Activity Theme 3 is due Thursday 5/27 (research the history of civil rights adn write a paragraph--see rubric in your packet for details).  The essay portion on racism is due after class on Wednesday 5/26. 

May 21
 
English:  Lesson 5 page 359 (1-10) due Monday 5/24.
 
Literature:  Jokes were delivered this afternoon.  Very funny stuff!  Essay for theme 2 was written and turned in today. 

May 20
 
English:  Lesson 4 page 358 (1-18) due Friday 5/21.
 
Literature:  Theme 2 was discussed today in groups.  Essay for theme 2 'A Sense of Humor' will be finished in class tomorrow.  Theme 2 activity (tell an appropriate and funny joke) and cover for the Thoughts and Themes packet is due this Friday 5/21. 

May 19
 
English:  Notes were taken on lesson 4.  We will review tomorrow and put it to work. 
 
Literature:  Essay for theme 1 on freindship was completed and turned in today.  Friendship collage due Thursday 5/20.   

May 18
 
English:  Lesson 3 Adjective Phrases page 357 (1-20) due Wednesday 5/19.
 
Literature:  Groups were set for Friendship theme 1 response (due after class on Wednesday 5/19).  Collage (along with 10 qualities) due Thursday 5/20. 

May 17
 
English:  Lesson 2 page 356 (1-18) due Tuesday 5/18.
 
Literature:  Activity 1 from the Thoughts and Themes packet will continue tomorrow.  Bring in old magazines that you can cut up to create a friendship collage due Thursday 5/20.  Work time will be provided on Tuesday and Wednesday for the collage.

Literature:  We watched a documentary about The Great Depression.

English:  Speeches were finished today.
 
Literature:  Finish reading pages 744-746.  Pages 746-747 (1-12) and page 748 (vocabulary 1-6) due Friday 5/14. 

May 12
 
Influential person speeches were delivered today and will be finished tomorrow morning. 

May 11
 
English:  Be have now begun unit 7 on prepositional phrases.  Lesson one, page 355 (1-12) due Wednesday 5/12.
 
Literature:  We read two fables in our literature book (pages 724-733) and took a test.  Influential Person speeches will be delivered Wednesday and Thursday of this week. 

May 10
 
English:  The rubric for the Influential Person speech was distributed and discussed today.  Speeches are due this Wednesday and Thursday 5/12 and 5/13. 
 
Literature:  Work time was given for filling out note cards for the speeches.  Refer to the rubric for details. 

May 7
 
English:  Unit 6 test today.
 
Literature:  Bud, Not Buddy test today. 

May 6
 
English:  Unit 6 test Friday 5/7.  Note check continues for this unit. 
 
Literature:  All work for Bud, Not Buddy is due Friday 5/7.  See below for details.  Test for Bud, Not Buddy is Friday 5/7.

English:  Review pages 311-313 (1-45) for unit 6 due Thursday 5/6.  No need to rewrite the sentences for sections 3-6, just write the pronouns.  Unit 6 test on Friday 5/7.
 
Literature:  All work for Bud, Not Buddy due Friday 5/7.  See May 3rd.  Test on the book Thursday 5/6.

English:  Research papers were turned in today.  Lesson 9 Reflexive and Intensive Pronouns page 324 (1-14) due Wednesday 5/5.  We will review on Wednesday and Thursday and take the unit test this Friday 5/7. 
 
Literature:  Mini-dictionary, Jazz poster, chapter illustration, and letter to Curtis due Friday 5/7.  Look for a test on the book this Thursday or Friday. 

April 30
 
English:  Indefinite Pronouns page 323 (1-12) due Monday 5/3.
 
Literature:  Quiz for chapters 15-19 in Bud, Not Buddy due Monday 5/3.
