Week 6 of Assessment Period 6:

Monday (5/31) – No School: Memorial Day

Tuesday (6/1) – Work on books

Wednesday (6/2) – 8W Only: work on books; 8R: No Class due to the 6th Grade Talent Show in the afternoon

Thursday (6/3) – No Class but turn in your First Grade Buddy Book before school! 

Friday (6/4) – Last Day of School!  FIELD DAY!

 
Week 5 of Assessment Period 6:

Monday (5/24) – Lesson 9 “Infinitive Phrases” (pages 376-378); notes (overhead available below); practice together

Tuesday (5/25) – Review Lesson 9 with worksheet 157 AND page 394 #6-15

Wednesday (5/26) – Spelling Test will be first; Unit 7 Pre Test: pages 381-382 #1-34; change in directions: Section 3-just choose the word; Section 4- write the participle or participial phrase and then the word it modifies (due Friday)

Thursday (5/27) – No Class: 100% Club

Friday (5/28) – Go through the answers to the PreTest

 

Week 4 of Assessment Period 6:

Monday (5/17) – Lesson 7 “Gerund Phrases” (pages 367-370); notes (overhead available below); practice together

Tuesday (5/18) – FINAL DRAFT OF RESEARCH PAPER DUE!  Review Lesson 7 with page 392 #1-12; discuss together; Lesson 8 “Verbals: Infinitives” (pages 373-375); copy chart from page 373 in notes

Wednesday (5/19) – DISPLAY BOARD DUE!  Journal will be first: “What is your favorite month?  Explain.”  Review Lesson 8 with page 374 #1-18

Thursday (5/20) – Set up for Culture Fair; CULTURE FAIR TONIGHT (6:30-9:00 P.M. IN THE FELLOWSHIP HALL)

Friday (5/21) – Review Lessons 7 and 8 with Worksheet 151 & 155 (due in class)

 

Week 3 of Assessment Period 6:

Monday (5/10) – Rough Draft #1 DUE!  Lesson 5 “Participle Phrases” (pages 361-363); take notes (overhead available below); practice together; Homework: page 390 #1-15

Tuesday (5/11) – the students will chart their rough drafts using the sentence chart (available below), this will help the students with the proofreading process; if time remains, the students will pair up and peer edit each other’s papers

Wednesday (5/12) – Spelling Test will be first; Lesson 6 “Verbals: Gerunds” (pages 364-366); take notes (overhead available below)

Thursday (5/13) – Review Lesson 6 with #1-7 from the lesson (do together); then do pages 365-366 #8-20 on own in notes; discuss answers when done

Friday (5/14) – Rough Draft #2 DUE (complete with parent proofreading marks AND a parent signature)!  Review Lessons 5 and 6 with worksheet 147 & 149 (due in class)

 

Week 2 of Assessment Period 6:

Monday (5/3) – No Class: Wisconsin Dells

Tuesday (5/4) – No Class: Wisconsin Dells

Wednesday (5/5) – Journal will be first: “What are the four most important things in your life?  Explain.”  Lesson 3 “Choosing Correct Prepositions” (pgs. 355-357); brief notes; practice together

Thursday (5/6) – Lesson 4 “Verbals: Participles” (pages 358-360); notes (overhead available below); practice together; Homework: Worksheet 145 AND page 388 #1-14 (based on Lesson 3)

Friday (5/7) – discuss check-lists for the paper and the plan of display; work on Plan of Display for Culture Fair (handout available below); the students will create a rough draft of what their poster boards will look like so they can start preparing and gathering the necessary materials)

 

Week 1 of Assessment Period 6:

Monday (4/26) – Go through answers to the Unit 6 Test; start Unit 7: “Phrases;” Lesson 1 “Prepositional Phrases” (pgs. 346-349); notes (overhead available below); practice together; QUIZ ON THE 64 PREPOSITIONS FROM THE CHART ON PAGE 346 WILL BE ON FRIDAY, APRIL 30 (they do not have to be memorized in order, though it is appreciated J); list of the prepositions is available below

Tuesday (4/27) – Review Lesson 1 with page 386 #1-10; discuss answers together; Lesson 2 “Prepositional Phrases as Modifiers” (pgs. 350-352); notes (overhead available below); practice together

Wednesday (4/28) – 8W: No Class due to 100% Club; 8R: No Class due to lunch and recess

Thursday (4/29) – Spelling Test will be first; Review Lesson 2 by practicing together from the lesson; then do Worksheet 139 in partners; if time remains each student will do page 387 #1-16

Friday (4/30) – PREPOSITIONS QUIZ and NOTE CARDS ARE DUE (completed interview and any additional research note cards that were needed)

Wednesday (5/12) – Read the Afterward (pages 269-283)

Thursday (5/13) – Read through worksheet 36 “Put Hitler on Trial;” then read through worksheet 40 “The Final Day in the Secret Annexe;” requirements for this activity: the journal entry must be at least 4 paragraphs, must use at least 4 sentences of dialogue (punctuated correctly), must start the entry with “Dear Kitty,” and end the entry with “Yours, Anne”

Friday (5/14) –The students will share their journal entries in class

 

Week 2 of Assessment Period 6:

Monday (4/26) – Read pages 120-135

Tuesday (4/27) – Share Escape Bags in small groups (“Escape Bag” (worksheet 28): answer YES to all of the questions about Anne Frank (use information from the book and be realistic in your answers based on her time); then create your own “Escape Bag” using a brown grocery bag (preferred, though any paper bag will do); decorate your “Escape Bag” and include the title: _______’s Escape Bag; put in at least 4 items that you would take with you if you were escaping a situation; be ready to share and explain your bags)

Wednesday (4/28) – 8W: No Class, but Homework is to read pages 136-156; 8R: Read pages 136-156

Thursday (4/29) – Discuss First Grade Interview (handout), which will take place on Wednesday, May 5, after the 8th grade chapel service at the elementary school; each student will be assigned a first grade student; must have at least 25-30 questions; put each question on a note card; DUE TOMORROW; Read pages 156-176

Friday (4/30) –Read pages 176-194; TAKE HOME QUIZ ON SECTION 4 (pages 120-194) IS DUE ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 5
